Believe it or not the two photos below were taken from pretty much the same spot in Coralville almost exactly a year apart. Those are the kinds of extremes you can expect when you live in Iowa. Last year we had a phenomenally good Spring. This year we’re still barely above freezing with just a few days of March left. (The top photo was taken today).
Does this help you if you’re looking at the weather as a motivating factor for your relocation to the Coralville and Iowa City area? Maybe not. What it does tell you is that you should expect the unexpected. I know that’s probably true of more places than just Iowa. Talking about the weather is a national past time in most places I’ve lived, but take it from me, (a seasoned world traveler), nowhere more than in Iowa where the shift from hot to cold or dry to torrential rain are always extreme. My guess is that when this long and cold winter does end it will be sudden and the shift in the other direction will be swift – Stay tuned for that!

I think the last thing many people think about when moving to an area is the weather. This is great information for those considering moving to Iowa. They will not be surprised. Here our weather is pretty much the same all year round.
