Iowa City Area Information

Living & Working in Iowa City

Iowa City forms a contiguous area with their neighbor Coralville and is less than 30 minutes from Cedar Rapids and 15 minutes from North Liberty IA. The University of Iowa is the biggest employer in the area with 20,000+ employees. For health care The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics provides one of the best healthcare facilities in the nation and take spot number 2 for top employers in Iowa City. More information on that can be found following the link to the Iowa City / Cedar Rapids Website:ICR-IOWA. It doesn’t take long to see just how big a roll health care and education play around here with Pearson Education, ACT, Mercy Hospital and the VA Medical Center all making the top ten!

Pentacrest Old Capitol Iowa City

When it comes to quality of life you can expect here in the Iowa City area, Iowa City and the neighboring communities of Coralville and North Liberty regularly make it onto lists for the most livable places to be in the US.

Students from all over the world attend the University of Iowa and as a teaching hospital the UI Hospitals also attracts students and residents from all over. That makes for a very diverse cultural environment in Iowa City and as a Brit living in Iowa that just happens to be the thing I like most about it. I don’t think there are any countries NOT represented in Iowa City. To illustrate my point, I’ve helped buyer and sellers clients from Kenya, Libya, Egypt and Turkey, China and India and Pakistan. And that’s off the top of my head – If I thought a little longer I could add a half a dozen other countries to the list!

Housing Trends in Iowa City

The Iowa City real estate market is typically more stable than other parts of the country. We can thank the University of Iowa and the UI Hospitals for that. Incoming students, faculty and residents means that the real estate market in the Iowa City area is very active in the spring and summer months.Charts for real estate stats Iowa City

One things for sure, relocating buyers are no different than any other buyer – They don’t want to overpay for a house either! I’m all about making sure my buyer clients have as much information as possible before they make an offer on a house and the only way I can do that is by staying on top of the market. My areas of expertise are Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty. (Lately I’ve added Tiffin to my list as Tiffin is growing a lot lately and deserves the attention).

Looking for homes online is where almost all buyers start these days. Local buyers will know the lay of the land. Relocating buyers on the other hand will find benefits from many of the online tools available. Not to mention, for relocating buyers, a good agent is a valuable asset on your journey to find the right home. In my case, as a Brit in Iowa, I’ve done a fair bit of relocating myself and know how daunting it can be. Please reach out with questions. I’m always happy to help!

Whatever your circumstances, when you’re ready to move forward with buying a home in the Iowa City area, you can reach me easily by phone, text or email 7 days a week!
