Home Sales & Home Prices Iowa City June 2015

Mid Year Market Trends in Iowa City June 2015

Home Sales & Home Prices are up in Iowa City for the first half of the year, although not as much as you’d expect for an active market. Home Sales are up just 2% for the year. At the beginning of the month I looked at the bigger picture, this update takes a look at the types/styles of homes sold in Iowa City in the first half of 2015 to see where the strongest sales are.

Single family home sales in Iowa City are up by almost 10%. Condo sales on the other hand are down 15%. One of my main areas of expertise is helping condo buyers and sellers, so I tend to watch the condo market particularly closely. I can say with certainty that there were very few condos on the market in the lower price ranges, during the peak selling time of the year. It wasn’t a shortage of buyers that caused the shortfall, it was the lack of choices of condos for condo buyers.

Home prices are up for all prices and styles for homes in Iowa City. That is a sure sign that the Iowa City real estate market is stronger than the 2% increase in sales indicates.
