Homes in Iowa City come in all styles and price ranges. The neighborhoods close to Downtown Iowa City is where you’ll find the sought after historic homes. The further out you go from the original City of Iowa City the newer the selection of houses and styles becomes. Styles range from ranch homes to two story, split level and multi level homes, depending on the era they were built in.
When choosing a neighborhood to live in Iowa City, buyers should keep in mind the natural development of the area. You’re less likely to find new construction homes downtown, you’re also not likely to find an historic neighborhood on the outskirts of town. Although neither scenario can be completely ruled out. This more a guideline than a set in stone fact of the Iowa City landscape. There are pockets of high rise new construction buildings downtown and some older historic homes on acreages on the outskirts of town. Neither are catering to your “average” buyer though, which is what I’m trying to cover here.
